Mark Odell Whitney, 78, of Clifton, Texas, passed away on March 5, 2024. He was born on September 17, 1945, in Tyler, Texas. Mark was a proud, patriotic, funny, caring, accepting, honest, sincere, selfless, giving, provider, family man, and talker.
Mark served in the Army for 28 years, achieving the rank of E7 Sergeant First Class Senior NCO. He had a distinguished military career as an Airborne Paratrooper, Mortars, and Tanker. Mark was awarded the Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Army Service Ribbon. He was the CO A 176 Engineer Battalion.
Mark attended Clifton Primary School and Clifton High School. He worshipped at the First United Methodist Church of Clifton.
In his free time, Mark enjoyed hunting, fishing, raising goats, and spending time with his family. He is survived by his children Julie and husband Mike Snyder, Jason O Whitney and wife Jaclyn, and Amy Whitney Weir. He was preceded in death by Barbara Whitney. Mark also leaves behind grandchildren Paige Sorenson, Michael Snyder, Kaylee Snyder, Kolby Kettler, Colten Snyder, McKenzie Whitney, Jolie Whitney, Logan Weir, Hunter Weir, and great-grandson Bryson Ring.
Visitation will be held on March 6, 2024, from 5-7 pm at Clifton Funeral Home, with memorial services on March 7, 2024, at 10:00 am. Contributions in Mark's memory can be made to the American Heart Association or the Wounded Warrior Project.
