Beulah McCartney Obituary

It is with great sadness and heavy heart, that the family of Beulah L. Mullin, Barnes, McCartney, age 100 years and 11 months would like to inform you that she has passed on to her Heavenly reward. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at First Baptist Church, Clifton, Texas, at 11:00 A.M. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery in Ponca City, Oklahoma. Pastor Jerry Smith will officiate the funeral service at First Baptist Church, Clifton, Texas.

Beulah passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, just one month shy of turning 101 years old. She was a resident of Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home.

Beulah was born at a time when homes didn’t have electricity or indoor plumbing. Heating the home was also done by fireplace or stove. She grew up in an era that is vastly different from today. Born on December 17, 1921, in the small town of Sapulpa, Oklahoma to parents Elbert Eugene and Ellen Schrader Mullin, Beulah began her long journey of life. She was one of seven siblings in her large family. Beulah attended Ponca City, Oklahoma High School in her teen years and graduated from there in 1941. She was the only sibling of seven to graduate from High School.

In 1942, Beulah was joined in marriage to Delmer Eugene Barnes. One little girl, Barbara was born to this union.  Delmer was in the service at the beginning of their marriage and Beulah went to work for a defense contractor in Wichita, Kansas. Life was hard in the 1940s, but improved after the war and the family made their home in Ponca City. Two more children blessed the family with the arrival of Darlene, then a son, Rodney.   Beulah was a devoted mother and homemaker. Beulah loved to go camping with family and friends. She loved art and she loved to paint, a passion that followed her all her life. She loved a good Bob Wills tune and even though a Baptist, she loved to Square Dance a “time or two”. She was a committed Baptist, attending Church regularly at First Baptist in Ponca City. Many of her social activities centered around the church and her family. She always believed in prayer before a sermon and she always treated everyone with love and kindness. Beulah was truly a disciple of Christ and a sweet, sweet mother.

Beulah was widowed in later years and after a period of morning, she met and married Robert McCartney. They were joined in marriage in 1989.  A second widowhood followed in 2003, but embracing life again, Beulah moved to Clifton Texas in 2004. She joined the First Baptist Church and with her brought her colorful perspective of life becoming an integral part of the First Baptist Church family. Beulah wasn’t shy about giving advice to Brother Jerry on his sermons, always with the reminder of “prayer before the service”, like they did in the “old days” in Ponca City.  She led an active life, still enjoying painting even with the hand tremors in her later years. She was an avid OU fan! After watching a Texas/OU game at the ranch with family, and taking so much “flack” about the game, she decided to view future games in the privacy of her own apartment. Go OU!!!

Left to cherish Beulah’s sweet memory are children; Barbara and Ron Gerdes of Lake Whitney, Texas, Darlene and John Thomas of Clifton, Texas, and Rodney and Susy Barnes of Edmond, Oklahoma. Grandchildren; Jason and Rachael Thomas of Princeton, Texas, Tamara and Paul Jaramillo of Clifton, Texas, Todd Gerdes of Wichita, Kansas, Tanya and Brad Carver of Wichita, Kansas, Eric and Jennifer Gerdes of Fulshear, Texas, Rachiel Morgan of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Nathan and Jennifer Barnes of Virginia, Travis and Kelsey Barnes of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Tracie Barnes of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and 19 Great and Great Great Grandchildren.
