Sally Ruth Lakey Ogden passed gently and gracefully into heaven on May 30th after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's Disease. She was residing in both the Lutheran Sunset Hope Center and the Lutheran Sunset Home in Clifton, TX for seven months before God took her home.
Sally was born on October 9, 1937, to parents Troy and Nona Lakey in Broaddus, TX and lived most of her childhood years in Zavalla, TX. Sally was the youngest of nine children (four brothers and four sisters) and was a proud Texan, even though she greatly enjoyed 13 wonderful married years in "Almost Heaven" West Virginia before moving back to Texas for her last year on earth.
She was preceded in death by her parents and was the last living member of all her siblings.
She is survived by her husband, Dick Ogden, and stepsons, Mike of Fort Worth, and Trevor (wife Jennifer) of Glen Rose, and grandchildren Miles, Natalie, and Makenzie and great grandchild, Ellie. She was also very fond of her many nieces and nephews and talked with them regularly.
Sally was a devout Christian and an active church member wherever she lived throughout her lifetime. She retired from Texas Utilities after thirty-seven years and, after retirement, volunteered with many service agencies such as: Meals on Wheels, Family Abuse Center, Habitat for Humanity, and enjoyed going to nursing homes to visit with their residents.
An avid sports fan, she followed the Midway Panthers girls' sports and the Baylor Lady Bears as a longtime season ticket holder and Tip-Off Club member. While not a golfer, she also loved watching PGA golf on TV.
Sally enjoyed many RV trips during the years and then became a lover of cruises, enjoying more than 35 and visiting more than fifty countries with friends and family. She was also a Stage 3 colon cancer survivor and valued her doctors for their excellent treatment and care.
Southern gospel and classic country and western music were favorites of hers, and she was a big Elvis and Dolly Parton fan.
She had many wonderful friends during her active years, including too many to list from Texas and Jackie, Bobbie, and Melba and her bridge club members in WV.
The devoted employees and staff of Lutheran Sunset Hope Center and Sunset Home and those of Sunset Hospice were especially wonderful to Sally and provided incredible support and care.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be conducted on Saturday, June 13th, at 11:00 AM in the Clifton Funeral Home, in Clifton, TX. Instead of sending flowers, Sally requested you contribute to a charity of your choice or the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
