Olney Noran Nygaard, age 89, passed away Sunday, February 21, 2016 in Arlington, TX. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February, 24 2016 at St. Olaf's Rock Church with Pastor Joan Iker officiating. Burial will follow at the Rock Church Cemetery.
Olney Noran Nygaard was born on a farm and ranch near Cranfills Gap, Texas on October 22, 1926.
Upon completion of Cranfiils Gap High School, Noran enrolled in Clifton Jr. College in Clifton, Texas. Noran was called into military service and was sent to the Pacific islands. When he returned he attended Texas A & M University and North Texas State University. Noran worked in the oil fields of West Texas before following a friend to the Northwest. He was employed in geophysical and civil engineering on the Pacific Coast, U.S.A. He was hired by a surveying crew and worked all over the Northwest, mainly in Washington and Oregon. He loved this area and became a master surveyor, better known as "Big Tex" to one and all.
He retired back to Texas and made his home with his sister, Myrtice
Larson, in Arlington, Texas. Noran loved to dance and watch the Texas
Rangers. He was also a true fan of the Dallas Cowboys.
Noran was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Hannah Nygaard
and twin sister, Hazel Norene Nygaard. An infant sister, Maurine, died in infancy. He is survived by his sister, Myrtice Nygaard Larson.
