Born on a cattle and sheep ranch in the Pottsville Community, Hamilton County, Texas, on January 6, 1922, the great-granddaughter of Norwegian and German immigrants. Died peacefully March 4, 2026 at the age of 104.
Visitation: 1:15 p.m. and Memorial Service: 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at the First Presbyterian Church, 211 S. Avenue G (Highway 6), Clifton, Texas; Reverend Clint Schofield and Reverend Paul Merrill officiating. Arrangements: The Clifton Funeral Home.
Mary Bergman was educated in the Tonkawa and Pottsville public schools in Hamilton County and at Clifton Junior College. She taught school and coached girls basketball in Womack and Pottsville and owned/operated a private kindergarten school in McKinney, Texas. Mary married U.S. Army Lieutenant Clinton Odell Bergman in 1944 shortly before he was sent to Germany during World War II. She attended and served the Presbyterian Church in McKinney and Clifton for over 80 years; she played the piano as recently as her own 100th birthday party. She was affectionally known by her family as Mimi.
Survived by son Milton Rea Bergman and his wife Carol of Whitney, son Gary Clinton Bergman and his wife Mellie of Boerne, daughter Barbara Ann and her husband Dr. Don Robertson of Lubbock and son Chris Edward Bergman and his wife Debbie of Gatesville; granddaughter Cara and husband Jason Ponish of Liberty Hill, granddaughter Camille Smith of Flower Mound, granddaughter Kari Dahl Bergman of San Antonio, grandson Grant Dodson Bergman and wife Dr. Lindsey Bergman of San Antonio, granddaughter Anna Claire and husband Alex Johnson of Azle and grandson Clinton Hunt Bergman and wife Lyndsie of Jonesboro; great-grandchildren Logan Brooke and husband Chris Moran of Boerne, Jacob Cole Ponish of New Braunfels, Lauren Caroline Ponish of San Antonio, Claudia Dahl Smith of Flower Mound, Pablo Clinton Suarez of San Antonio, Dodson Hart, Ronin Jay & Stella Rhea Bergman of San Antonio, Hailyn Rea Ireton & Jack Walker Ireton and James Marcus Johnson of Azle and Sadler Dale Cockrell of Jonesboro; sister-in-law Mina Bergman of Clifton; numerous nieces, nephews and close friends. Each of the men listed above will serve as honorary pallbearers. Preceded in death by her parents William Andrew Rea (1884 - 1976) and Alma Clara Wied Rea (1885 – 1979) and brothers Wilford (1910 – 2006), James (1917 – 2001) and Bill Rea (1924 - 2014) as well as her husband of 63 years, Clint Bergman (1920 – 2008).
The family would like to express sincere appreciation to the entire staff of Willow Park Nursing Home and Sunset Hospice for their support and concern for Mary; your wise guidance and compassionate understanding was invaluable.
