Marie Whitehead

Oct 20, 1945 — May 9, 2026

Clifton

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Marie Whitehead, lovingly known as "Mamaw" to her cherished family and friends. Born Marie Wiseman on October 20, 1945, in Houston, Texas, she departed this life on May 9, 2026, surrounded by the warmth and love of her family, after weeks filled with shared memories and laughter, reminiscing her 80 years of love, life, and how richly God blessed her. Marie was the beloved daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Wiseman and is reunited in Heaven with her parents, her brothers, Clyde (Buddy) and Jack Jr. Wiseman, her devoted husband, John R. Whitehead Sr., and her two step-sons, Ray and Ronnie Whitehead.

Her legacy of love and kindness is carried on by her surviving family: 3 daughters Belinda Honea, Natalie Galbreth, Tammy Ashton, 1 son, Joey Whitehead, 2 stepchildren Ramona Sowder, Randy Whitehead, bonus children Jennifer and Pedro Ramirez, Tracy and Robi Kunkel. She was the proud grandmother of 35 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren each of whom brought immense joy to her heart. Marie and John Whitehead were united in matrimony on September 16, 1970, a partnership that was a testament to love and dedication. Together, they made history as the first foster family in Bosque County, opening their hearts and home to over 40+ children through the state of Texas and countless others who became part of their extended family. Marie was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church (FBC) in Clifton, Texas. Her love for her faith was evident as she would attend the early service at FBC and then walk across the street to worship at the First Presbyterian Church (FPC) with her daughter, who was the Music and Youth director there at the time. Her faith was a guiding light, and she introduced many to the teachings of Jesus, a testament to her compassionate spirit. Education was important to Marie, who earned her GED and dedicated her career to serving the community. Over the years, she managed the day-to-day responsibilities at Fishhook Lodge of Lake Whitney, worked as a CNA at Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home and later in life retired from her work for Clifton ISD as a paraprofessional and a bus driver, all roles in which she touched countless lives. Her greatest passion, however, was helping others, a calling she embraced wholeheartedly. Marie had a unique ability to light up a room with her stories, laughter, and warmth. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought endless happiness to her life. Her love was a constant presence, her hugs a source of comfort, and her wisdom a guiding force.

A service to celebrate Marie's life will be held on May 23, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, located at 106 South Ave. G, Clifton, Rev. Jerry Smith officiating. Her loving family invites all who knew her to join in honoring her life and legacy.

Marie Whitehead's life was a testament to love, faith, and service. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness and compassion that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. While her physical presence will be dearly missed, her spirit and love will forever remain in the memories of those she touched.
