John Douglas Holt

John Douglass Holt of Clifton, Texas, passed away on September 12, 2026, at the age of 82. 

John was born on December 30, 1943, in Clifton to John Henry Holt and Ruby Lee Holt. He attended Clifton schools and was a member of Fairfield Baptist Church. John began his railroad career with the Katy Railroad in 1964 and retired from Union Pacific after 42 years of service. Retirement did not end his work in the community: he continued working for Smith Bend Water Supply until his passing. 

He enjoyed Cleburne Railroaders baseball games and antique tractor pulls. 

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Riendfliesch, whom he married on March 3, 2010; his brother, Keith Holt and wife Andrea; his sister-in-law, Theresa Holt; his children, John Douglass Holt II and wife Teri, James Michael Holt and wife Kristine, and Samantha Shoemaker and husband Robbie; his stepson, Travis Riendfliesch; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

John was preceded in death by his parents, John Henry and Ruby Lee Holt; his brother, Gary Holt; and his great-grandson, Hudson Holt.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, September 17, 2026 at First Baptist Church, Clifton. Burial will follow at Smith Bend Coon Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 16, 2026 at Clifton Funeral Home.
