John Seth Hoel, age 66, passed away early Friday morning December 22nd at home surrounded by family and friends. The family will hold a memorial service at 2:00 P.M. Friday, December 29, 2017 at the Zion United Church in Womack with Dr, Jerry Smith officiating.
John was born May 3, 1951 to Calvert and Eva Lena Hoel. He was a lifelong resident of Bosque County. When John played little league he was the 1962 recipient ballplayer to accompany C.E. “Pat” Olsen to the World Series in New York. John was also a member of the 1969 Clifton Cub state finalist football team. He graduated from Clifton High School then obtained his bachelor’s degree at Texas Tech University.
After college graduation, he returned to Clifton and worked for J.L. “Hutch” Hutchinson buying cattle then managed the Clifton Livestock Commission Co. for over 25 years. John was an avid hunter and fisherman. He won the 2016 Big Buck Contest sponsored by the Clifton Chamber of Commerce.
On April 26, 2002, John married Carolyn Farris. John and Carolyn cherished each other, and found humor even during the toughest times. They worked hard together side by side ending most days covered in dirt, blood, and sweat. Acting as each other’s right hand while remembering always to protect love and intimacy. There were many days of fishing, telling stories, cooking, and entertaining their friends with generosity and happiness.
John was a true friend to many. During his valiant battle with cancer, his friends surrounded us with uncommon acts of love and devotion. A true testimony. John was blessed with a strong family rich in heritage that truly loves each other.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Calvert and Eva Lena Hoel. His survivors include his wife, Carloyn Hoel; son, David Hoel; daughter, Erin Mertz and husband Chadd; son, Jordan Hoel; step-daughter, Misty Lenox; sister Jo Ann Hoel, sister Ruthy Willoughby and husband Bob; sister Mary and husband Col.
