Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 15, 2016 at First Baptist Church, Clifton with Dr. Jerry Smith officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial at Norse Cemetery.
Charles Tucker was born on November 27, 1932 in Meridian. He was one of six children born to Cecil Tucker and Aileen Jordan Tucker. He grew up in Meridian and attended schools there. He graduated from Meridian High School in 1950. He married Kathryn Sather after a time of courtship in 1953. The couple moved to El Paso where he was in the Army and served during the Korean War. He was discharged from the service in 1955. Two sons would be born to this marriage, Charles Jr. and Randy. The family made their home here in Clifton at first where Charles worked for the Texas Highway Department. The family left in the early 1970's when Charles went to work for the Liquor Control Board of Texas. Those moves took them to South Texas to Goliad and Victoria.
When Charles and Kathryn moved back to Clifton in the mid 1990's, Charles worked for the Bosque County Sheriff's Department. He has been a Mason most all of his life and has served through the local Masonic Lodge here in Clifton.
He was married to his wife Kathryn for 48 years. In her last years of life when she battled cancer, he took care of her at home with the care of a hospice nurse. He loved his farm and ranching. He enjoyed feeding his cows and spending time out there when he could on a weekly basis. He enjoyed having the grandchildren come and visit. When his son Randy died, he and Kathryn were instrumental in helping Valerie, Sasha and Ashley make the transitions they needed to make.
He served at First Baptist Church as a greeter, usher, and faithful Sunday School member for all the years they have been back here in Clifton. He has been a fixture at the church doors for almost 20 years now serving in the early service. He was a helper for Brent Powers, Harold Leigh, Jim Scott, Mark Dansby, Paul Edge and Bill McCleary recently.
Charles will be remembered for his quiet jovial spirit. He had a smile that could warm a room. He was consistent in his faith and enjoyed the outdoors particularly donning his overalls and working on the farm.
He was preceded in death by his wife Kathyrn Sather Tucker, and one son Randy Tucker and one grandson Steven Tucker.
He is survived by his son Charles Tucker, Jr. and by his five grandchildren Michael, Jon, Justin, Ashley, and Sasha, and by one brother Rex Tucker. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and in-laws.
Memorials may be made to the Masonic Home in Arlington/Fort Worth.
