Billy Gene Meinkowsky, 63, of Clifton, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on February 27, 2026.
Billy was born on July 23, 1962, in Clifton, Texas, and was a proud lifelong member of the community he loved so deeply. He graduated from Clifton High School in 1980, where he left his mark both on and off the field. As varsity football team captain, proudly wearing #63, he led with strength and determination. He was also a state powerlifting champion during just the second year of the sport’s existence in Texas — an accomplishment that reflected his grit, discipline, and competitive spirit.
For nearly 40 years, Billy worked as a "meter reader" for the local electric company. In that role, he became more than just a familiar face — he became a friend to countless families throughout Clifton and the surrounding areas. His daily routes allowed him to know the community in a way few others could, and he treasured the conversations, stories, and connections he made along the way. During Hurricane Harvey, Billy stepped up to assist with rescue and cleanup efforts in Houston, embodying his lifelong commitment to helping others whenever and however he could.
Billy’s passions were simple and wholehearted. He loved cooking — especially briskets and beans — and took pride in feeding anyone who gathered around his table. He was a devoted fan of Texas Longhorns football, never missing a chance to cheer them on. He found peace fishing at Lake Whitney with a cold beer in hand, and he especially loved talking — at great length and with great enthusiasm — about all of the above. His stories, laughter, and voice will echo in the memories of those who knew him.
Above all, Billy had a kind and generous heart. If someone was in need, he was there — ready to lend a hand, share a meal, or offer steady support. His greatest joy, however, was his family. He adored his grandchildren beyond measure and cherished every moment spent with them.
Billy is survived by his brothers, John, Ted, and Roy Meinkowsky; his three children, Billy J. Meinkowsky, Taylor Meinkowsky, and Lacy Lucien; and his three beloved grandchildren, Sophia Meinkowsky, Easton Meinkowsky, and Mason Lucien; and long-time friend, Kelly Smith.
Services will be held Sunday, March 8th, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Clifton Funeral Home.
Billy’s strength, humor, stories, and unwavering kindness will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who were blessed to know him.
