Clifton

Billy Joe Britton, of Clifton, Texas, passed away on January 24, 2026, at the age of 65.

Born on April 25, 1960, in Alameda County, California, Billy Joe Britton came into the world during a season of movement and hard work. Shortly before his birth, his parents had relocated from Texas to California, where his father worked at Montgomery Ward in Oakland. Billy spent his early childhood in Hayward, California, where he attended elementary school and formed the beginnings of a life shaped by resilience and adaptability.

In the summer of 1969, Billy returned to Texas with his family. They lived for a time in Fort Worth with his grandmother before settling in Burleson around 1969–1970. By 1972, the family made their home in Joshua, Texas, where Billy attended school in Joshua ISD and remained through graduation. These early moves etched into him a quiet toughness and an ease with change that followed him throughout his life.

Billy Joe Britton lived a life defined by loving humor and grit. He was known for his great stories, his quiet strength, and a stubborn kindness that did not seek applause. Those who knew him well will remember his deep love of arrowhead hunting, a pastime that mirrored his patience, curiosity, and reverence for the past.

He is survived by the mother of his children, Debra Crawford; his firstborn son, Billy Joe Middlebrooks Britton (37); and his second-born son, Benjamin David Britton (36). He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Billy Middlebrooks Britton (14), Braxton David Britton (12), Daniel Eli Deady (11), David Benjamin Britton (8), and Dillon Matthew Britton (6). He is further survived by his sisters, Vanessa Britton and Julie Britton, and his very good friend, Matthew Crawford.

He was preceded in death by his father, Billie Joe Britton; his mother, Mary Evelyn LeSueur; and his brother, Anthony Britton.

To his family, Billy Joe Britton was the father-in-law type: steady, protective, teasing, loving, and quietly proud. To the world, he was a jokester and a fun-loving man. But to those closest to him, he was simply Dad, Papa, Grandpa Billy.

He will be remembered with love, carried in stories, and missed beyond measure.
