William Travis Poston, Jr.

William Travis Poston, Jr., 89, passed away on April 19, 2023, in Weatherford, TX.

William was born on July 3, 1933, in Mosheim, TX, to the late William Travis Poston, Sr. and Evelyn Poston. He grew up in Mosheim and graduated from Mosheim High School in 1951.

William began his career in 1951 as a telegrapher for the Santa Fe Railroad. He joined the United States Army in 1953 and served until his honorable discharge from USAR in 1961. After completing his service William went on to work with the Federal Aviation Administration until his retirement in 1988. The skills and technical education that William gained during his service and career shaped his hobbies for the rest of his life. 

William married his beloved wife Margaret Lucille Herrin on January 16, 1960, in Corsicana, and together they had two daughters, April Annette Nowlain and Deborah June Poston Allen. He was a devoted and loving father and grandfather who cherished his family dearly.

William is survived by his wife Margaret, his daughters April and Deborah, his granddaughters Kristy Nowlain (Peter Flinn), Krista Toten, Rachel Nowlain-Sisk (Clint Sisk), Lindsey Matthews(Sam), ShelbieRae Kelly (Kevin), Courtney Toten, and Kaci Nowlain (Joshua Sharp),  his sisters Betty Newsom and Carole Wood, his brother Ralph Poston (Jeannie), and many nephews and nieces. He had four great-grandchildren, Peightyn Reed, Evelyn and Aubrey Nowlain-Sisk, and Emerson Matthews. His family and friends will always remember him as a wonderful man, known for his exceptional character and admired for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering love.

William enjoyed flying airplanes, building motor homes and bus RVs, camping, and taking on any project that piqued his interest, including building bucking bulls and double seater bicycles for the kids and rebuilding cars. He had a passion for life and a playful spirit that he shared with those around him, whether he was horsing around with his grandkids or getting into mischief with his brother Ralph. 

William is preceded in death by his father William Travis Poston, Sr., and his mother Evelyn Poston.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 2, from 12:00-1:30pm at Clifton Funeral Home in Clifton, TX, followed by a graveside service at 2:00pm at the Poston family cemetery in Mosheim, TX.
