Kennard Dahl Obituary

Kennard (Ken) Martin Dahl, 83, left his earthly home on Tuesday, March 25, 2020 at Kindred Southwest in Ft. Worth, Texas.  Graveside memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, June 11, 2020 at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.

Ken was born in Clifton, Texas on May 17, 1936, the son of Einar and Bessie Seymour Dahl of Clifton, Texas. He proudly served his country at seventeen by joining the Texas National Guard, the U.S. Marine Corp in 1953, and the U.S. Airforce in 1958. He was extremely proud of his military service and continued to support the Texas National Guard.  He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge.

During his military service, he married Janet Richling and lived in California; two daughters were born of this union, Susan and Margaret (Peggy).  While in California he was a captain on the local fire department.

In 1976 he moved to Houston, Texas where he owned his own contracting business.   In 1977 Ken married Laverne Deweese, deceased, and became a Step-Father to Gina Ann Ratliff who married Mark Lunsford.  During this time he was an active member of Bethel Baptist Church.

In 2001 Ken returned to his hometown, Clifton, Texas where he semi-retired but continued doing construction work with his friend, Jerry Benfer.  During this time he enjoyed getting together with friends and family to play and sing country-western and bluegrass music.  Ken was an expert on the guitar and loved to strum a tune, especially with his niece, Angela Bauman, and nephew Chandler Fulton.  Ken was an avid antique bicycle collector/restorer. He restored many bicycles for his family and friends including his wife Charla’s childhood bicycle.

Having grown up in the Trinity Lutheran Church of Clifton, Texas, Ken returned to his Lutheran roots by uniting with Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Norse, Texas.

In 2004, after meeting at a friend’s home, Ken married Charla Kay Varley Tidwell.  He became a Step-Father to Marla Kay Tidwell Pribble who married B.J. Pribble of Whitney, Texas. Ken and Charla resided in Clifton for over 15 years.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan; 5 siblings:  Norma Jean Miller (Pool Miller), Elda Merle Eggen (Floyd Eggen), Elvis Burton Dahl, Patsy Nell Cranfill, (Joe Cranfill), and Mary Lois Dahl; other dear family members, Alma Deweese, Don and Doyalene Varley, and a dear aunt, Louise Dahl Outlaw.

Ken is also survived by Charla Dahl, his dear wife; a caring daughter, Peggy; loving step-daughters Gina Lunsford (Mark) and Marla Pribble (B.J.); and one sibling, a beloved brother, Ralph L. Dahl (Shirley).  Adoring grandchildren are Eric Consolo, Trevor Woodridge, Phillip Lunsford, Lauren Lunsford, Karla Pribble and Jaxson Pribble; great-grandchildren; Kitiara Consolo, Katrina Consolo and Miles Allen; brother-in-law Rick Varley (Joyce) and numerous nieces and nephews of whom he was extremely proud.

He and his brother, Ralph, were best of friends during the years.  They loved to hunt and fish, play and sing country music, and talk about “the good ole’ times” in Clifton, Texas.

Ken loved his grandchildren with all his heart, playing and riding bikes, and taking them fishing every chance he got.

A military grave-side memorial service will be held at a later date.
