Evelyn Watley Obituary

Evelyn Wheeler Watley, 82, of Clifton passed away at her residence on Monday, November 30, 2020. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, December 4, 2020 at Oswald Cemetery. Viewing will be held from 10:00 am to 4:00 P.M. Thursday, December 3, 2020 at Clifton Funeral Home. Full obituary forthcoming. 

Evelyn Wheeler Watley was born on Thursday, May 26, 1938 in Albany, Georgia to the late Bass and Sallie Jones Wheeler. She was one of nine children born into this union where seven of them preceded her in death. Willie C. Wheeler, L.B. Wheeler, Joseph Wheeler, Bass Wheeler Jr., Edward Wheeler, Lillie Mae Crosley and Delores Wheeler Ashe. One surviving sister, Adell Wheeler Webb

Evelyn was joined in holy matrimony to Raydell Whatley of Clifton, Texas in Albany, Georgia on Saturday October 11th, 1958. This union was blessed with a daughter, Carol Whatley, in Albany, Georgia 1959. The couple then moved to Clifton, Texas in October 1959. This union was also blessed with a son, Elton Whatley, in Clifton, Texas 1961. Evelyn lived out her life in Clifton, Texas for the next 61 years in marriage with her husband and family until they were departed by her death on Monday 30th of November 2020. Evelyn’s heart was divided by love for two families. Her Georgia family and her Texas family. She never forgot about the home and family she left behind. Throughout the years, she stayed in contact with sisters, brothers and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends in Georgia. Decades of long-distance phone calls multiple times a year which some years included vacation trips home. She was always excited to take those trips back home “Albany, G.A.”. Evelyn was dearly loved by her Texas family. She was known as “Teen” or “Aunt Teen”. She developed great relationships with her Texas sisters-in-love and brothers-in-Love, a host of nieces, nephews and friends, throughout the years.

Evelyn is survived by her husband Raydell, her daughter, Carol Whatley and her son Elton Whatley. Grandchildren: Kevin and Chris, Rachel, Elton Jr. and wife Gracie, Kelsey, Shaniqua, Raydell, Brian, Mariah, Nathan, Billy Paul, Kennedy, Malcom, Jason Cameron. Grandchildren: Elliyah, Kierra and Sa’rae. Evelyn held a special love for Melissa, Thomas and Stephanie Lacey in her heart. They were her family. She was very devoted to her loved ones. Evelyn was a woman of faith. She trusted in God. She served faithfully. She attended Shiloh Baptist Church, where she was a member for years. She also fellowshipped with the church family of Clifton Cumberland Church of America. She served in the children ministry as a Sunday School teacher for years. She enjoyed teaching her young students the Word of God. She served in the ministry as an Usher to welcome members and visitors as she ministered to their needs. She was devoted to helping feed the members and visitors with her homemade cooking. She was an excellent cook. She enjoyed cooking food and feeding people. She was one of the most hospitable people you would have ever met.

Evelyn Wheeler Whatley had many attributes that she shared with her family and friends. Her greatest attribute her love foe her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and the love that she had for her family and friends. She will be missed by all who knew her. “She finished her race; she kept the faith.”
