Doris O. (Cooper) Werner

Doris Ollie Cooper Werner, 85, passed from this life on January 21, 2023. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, January 26, 2023 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church at Norse with Pastor Ryan Pederson officiating.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Doris was born on February 23, 1937 in Gurley, AL to John H. Cooper and Frances Tomena Swenson Cooper. She spent most of her childhood in Corpus Christi, TX, graduating on the Honor Roll from W. B. Ray High School in 1956. In that same year, she went to work at the U.S. Naval Air Station, Civil Service, in Corpus Christi, transferring to Cecil Field, Jacksonville, FL, in 1959, where she met her future husband, Joseph Paul Werner. She married Joe Werner in Corpus Christi, TX on September 15, 1961. That same year, she started her career with Amoco Production Company. She and Joe moved to Houston when Amoco relocated their offices there. Joe died in 1979. Doris retired from Amoco as a Senior Administrative Supervisor in the Exploration Dept., in 1992, after 31 years of service. The following year, she had a home built in the Norse area of Bosque County, where she and two of her sisters, Hazel and Vera, came to reside. They all had many fond childhood memories of the area, both parents having been born and raised there. In 1994, Doris, along with sisters, Hazel and Vera became members of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.

In addition to her husband, Joe Werner, she was predeceased by her parents, and her twin brother John H. Cooper, Jr., sisters Hazel M. Wilkey and Vera Ann Cooper, and brother Robert A. Cooper.

She is survived by her sister Mildred Faye Pittman of Cranfills Gap, TX, and brother Milton Ray Cooper (twin to Faye) of Mathis, TX and several nieces and nephews.
