Don had a long career in the military and civil service. He served in the Navy from February 1, 1968 to October 9, 1969, then in the Coast Guard from April 27, 1970 to December 31, 1974. He retired from Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Bremerton, Washington in 2007 after a combined 38-year government service career. After Charlotte also retired from Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in 2008, they moved to North Texas to be near family.
Don enjoyed being with his family, playing jokes on the grandkids, celebrating family birthdays and being the Cookie Monster. He enjoyed fellowship with his church family and visiting with neighbors. He also enjoyed traveling.
Don had the mind of an engineer along with an appreciation for thrift which gave rise to the modification or repurposing of common or discarded items, giving then new utility. One of his most beloved famous creations was an air compressor cart fashioned from a milk crate, Big Wheel tires, and a “Nifty Nabber” for a pull handle.
Don’s fun-loving nature, helpfulness, and love of family will be greatly missed.
