Sarah Simpson Obituary

Sarah Holyce Manley Simpson, 77, passed away on Wednesday, August 4th at Lutheran Sunset Ministries. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, August 10, 2021, at Lanes Chapel Cemetery.

Sarah was born on August 25, 1943, in Bedford, PA to Robert Manley, Sr. and Holyce Stingley Manley. She grew up in Iowa and was a graduate of Iowa University, majoring in education and minoring in music, she was also a part of the opera group. After college, she began her career in education at the elementary school in Lyndon, Illinois. Later, she became the Girl Scout Director in Brownsville, Texas and in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Lastly, she became the director for the United Way in Muscatine, Iowa, where she was also a member of the Rotary Club. She re-wrote all the music for the club to suit both men and women. Sarah grew up in the Lutheran Church.

For 43 years Sarah was married to Texas Ned Simpson and was stepmother to Pam and Curtis Simpson and grandmother to Cheyenne and Byron Dempsy.

Sarah loved music and was an excellent pianist. She was very social and loved to be around people. She also loved to cook and travel with her husband.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband; stepchildren, Pam and Curtis Simpson; and niece, Kristin Manley.

She is survived by her brother, Robert Manley, Jr. and wife, Mary Jane; granddaughter, Cheyenne Ruby and husband, Tony; grandson, Byron Dempsy; 2 great-grandchildren; nephews, Robert Manley III, and Ryan Manley.
