Larry Gene Harvey

Larry Gene Harvey, 68, of Clifton passed away Saturday, June 8, 2019. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, June 14, 2019 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Jerry Smith officiating.

Larry Gene Harvey was born on June 9, 1950 in Clifton to Elmo and Jean Harvey. He was the oldest of three boys. In 1968, he graduated from Clifton High School and shortly after, he began a career with the Clifton Telephone Company, where for 42 years and 24 days, he could be counted on for phone service day or night. He could spout off anyone’s phone number needed without hesitation.

On February 14, 1972, he married Geneva Strickland. They built their first home where they raised their family until 1986, when they lived out their dream to construct one of the first log homes in the county.

Larry was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He drove the church van and taught Sunday school. In his retirement, he enjoyed volunteering at the Pot of Gold and selling sports memorabilia on Ebay. He loved being outdoors to fish and spend time with his grandchildren. Most mornings he could be seen out and about on his daily walk with a huge grin and a wave for everyone. He was a kind, gentle soul, and made an impact on all whom he met. He could tell stories with so much humor and animation, he was a first class entertainer. Larry truly adored his family. He spoiled their schnauzer, Coco, to a degree that no one could live up to.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Geneva; daughters, Shelly Carpenter and husband, Jim, Jennifer Harvey and Darrell Ivey; brothers, Kenneth Harvey and wife, Toni, Lonnie Harvey and wife, Sue; his grandchildren, Dax and Darci Gann, Logan and Laci Carpenter and Jarett Carpenter, and Jacy, Jenna, and Jake Herrera. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Glenda Strickland; and his very special nieces, nephews, cousins, and two great-grandchildren.
